Photography/Camera Messenger Bag MIL-SPEC

Well it isn’t a photography bag per se, but I lined the interior with loop velcro so I could add padded dividers when I want to use it for camera gear. It is made from MIL-SPEC components. The exterior is water resistant 1000D Cordura in ranger green with MARPAT coyote webbing and hardware, which is now one of my favorite colorways! (it looks even better in person) This is my first “messenger bag” and I’m definitely a fan. It’s a great day bag, book bag, gear bag, etc. and the best part is that it doesn’t look like a specific type of bag (like a “camera bag”).

Molle webbing on the front for additional pouches or pen storage and a map pocket on the lid:

A slim pocket on the back and a Klean Kanteen/Nalgene pocket on the side:

  1. would be nice to see how you attached the velcro loop and some photos of the dividers and in use with camera gear. the conversion is an interesting idea, i am looking for a new bag/pack, but have not found anything that i like yet. this may be an option.
    cheers

  2. Hey JC, First off, thanks for all the great information you’ve posted on your site. I’m heading out tomorrow to start gathering the items needed for the strobe battery pack. My question is who manufactures this bag and where did you find it. I like the idea of a messenger bag and have one sitting around that might do the trick. I’d very interested to see how you built the inside to suit your needs. Any chance of some follow up shots.

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Nathan, I’m glad you like my blog! I made the bag. The inside of it has loop velcro on all four sides as well as the bottom of the bag, which allows me to arrange padded dividers however I want. If your messenger bag doesn’t have velcro, you could drop in a padded insert, which would organize your gear and protect it. A lot of guys use this insert but if you need something different and can’t find what you’re looking for, let me know.

  3. Colby, if you’re still curious about the inside of the bag, check this out. I made a padded insert for it: http://janchristianphoto.com/blog/2011/08/padded-camera-caddy-bag-insert-custom
